About this ebook

During the months of March, April, May, June, and July 1982 the Mathematics Committee of the Science and Engineering Research Council of the United Kingdom supported a Symposium on Ordinary Differential Equations and Operators; the Symposium was held in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Dundee, Scotland. These Proceedings form a permanent record of the contributions made to the Symposium, and other contributions from colleagues who were invited to submit manuscripts in view of the special nature of this volume. These Proceedings are dedicated to F. V. (Derick) Atkinson by his many friends and colleagues in recognition of his mathematical contributions to the theory of differential equations and to mark his formal retirement from the University of Toronto, Canada. All the individual papers printed in this volume are dedicated by the authors to Derick Atkinson. The main overseas visitors for the Symposium were F.V. Atkinson, František Neuman, R.T. Lewis, Tung Chin-Chu and Anton Zettl. The main financial support came from the Mathematics Committee of SERC; there was a special grant from the Royal Society of London to enable Professor Tung Chin-Chu, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, PR China to attend the Symposium.
