This book provides an overall picture of Tamil Computing, covering different aspects. Specifically, starting with the basics of Tamil, Tamil Computing, Coding standards, fonts, keyboards, issues related to it, morphology, phonology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics of Tamil, Tools and resources and applications of Tamil Computing in detail.
The purpose of this book is also to give an insight into Tamil Handwritten character recognition and Speech processing in detail. Automatic Speech Recognition in one of the critical issues in any language. Recognizing handwritten characters using a machine is necessary in today's modern world. A computer system should be intelligent enough to receive and interpret the handwritten input. These two aspects are explained in detail.
This book elaborates on the existing corporate packages like MS-Office and its usage in Tamil, Database Processing and open Tamil. Dr. R. Ponnusamy graduated in Computer Science from A.V.C. College (Autonomous) in 1994 and obtained his M.Sc. in Computer Science from the same institution in 1996. He also received an M.Tech. in Computer Science & Engineering from Pondicherry University, Pondicherry, India, in 2000. He has a Ph.D. in Computer Science & Engineering from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, College of Engineering, Anna University, Chennai, in 2008. He has also received a D.C.Sc. (Engg.) (Post-Doctoral Degree), from the Universita Popolare Degli Studi De Milano, Italy in 2015. He is a Computer Science and Engineering professor and has more than 26 years of collegiate service in Tamilnadu and Telangana, India. He is currently the Professor and Dean in the Computer Science and Engineering Department at Chennai Institute of Technology, Chennai. His areas of interest are Artificial Intelligence, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Systems, Tamil Computing and Higher Education. He has authored and co-authored more than 120 papers in various international conferences and journals. He has guided 14 scholars and guiding eight research scholars for Ph.D. The Tamilnadu State Council for Science & Technology awarded him the Young Scientist Fellowship Award and he visited the Super Computer Education Research Centre of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India during 2005–2006. He is a Management Council Member of Computer Society of India Chennai Chapter 2023–2025. He is also a Former Executive Director of INFITT (International Forum for Information Technology in Tamil). He is also a Fellow and Member of Professional Societies IETE, IE(I), CSI, ACM, IEEE, ISTE and ISCA. He also received GISR Foundation IARE Best Faculty Award 2020, Fox Story India 50 Aspiring Authors and Researchers 2022, Glantor X 100 Powerful Personalities Award 2022 for being a great leader and an Inspiration to masses in the society.
