About this ebook

When your first day in a new city starts with murder, there’s no easing in slowly.

Margie Patenaude is brand new to Calgary—still helping her daughter settle into school—when she’s called to her very first crime scene. The murder is brutal. The setting? One of Calgary’s most beautiful parks. With a killer loose in the city’s green spaces, park-goers don’t feel safe, and Margie doesn’t have time to win over her skeptical coworkers before she proves she belongs on this team.

Margie is Métis, tough, and determined to prove she’s more than just a “diversity hire.” To catch the killer, she’ll have to dig into secrets hiding beneath the surface of Calgary’s pristine pathways—and hope her first case doesn’t also become her last.

✨ Tropes you’ll love:

* New-in-town detective with something to prove

* Police procedural with cozy pacing (no gore, sex, or strong language)

* Beautiful but deadly setting (Canadian parks as crime scenes)

* Strong mother-daughter relationship at the heart of the series

* Quick, bingeable mysteries perfect for busy readers

📖 Out with the Sunset is the first in the Parks Pat Mysteries, a fast-paced police procedural series set against the stunning backdrop of Calgary’s parks. If you enjoy character-driven mysteries, Canadian settings, and detective stories that balance grit with heart, this series is for you.

This is a new series which is set in Calgary and center in the various parks in the area. Marguerite Patenaude is a homicide detective who has newly moved to the area along with her 15-year-old daughter. “Pat” draws her first assignment to solve the murder of a man who has been killed in Fish Creek Park. I enjoyed the characters and the story.

Good book. I feel the writing was lacking in some areas, mostly descriptive writing. But it definitely highlights some very important issues and I appreciate the authors note at the end.
