In 2005, Brandon Sanderson debuted with Elantris, an epic fantasy unlike any other then on the market. To celebrate its tenth anniversary, Tor is reissuing Elantris in a special edition, a fresh chance to introduce it to the myriad readers who have since become Sanderson fans.
This new edition begins with a preface by author Dan Wells, the first person to read the completed novel, and a new afterword by Sanderson explaining how he came to write the book and its place in the Cosmere, the unified universe of all his Tor novels.
Also included is an expanded version of the "Ars Arcanum" appendix, with more of the technical details of the book's magic that fans can never get enough of.
Elantris was truly a milestone both for Sanderson and for the genre of epic fantasy. It deserves this special treatment, something Tor has done only once before, with Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game. Sanderson fans old and new will be excited to discover it.

A unique fantasy book. People need to focus on that more, this is not your standard sword and sorcery affair, the main hero has become undead and then abandoned in a former city in a way that is like Dark Souls. It is very refreshing and compelling. It took me a few hundred pages almost to adjust to the slower off kilter style, but once you do it is eminently rewarding - in this way it reminded me of Neal Stephenson's Anathem

A true stand alone novel complete unto itself! What a delightfully 'novel' concept. Brandon Sanderson's 1st novel is not as sharp and sophisticated as his later work, but it also lacks the manipulative ploys that modern authors use to control reader perception of pacing and requires further purchases to finish the story.

There were parts of this book that were a little slow, and sometimes the Teo princess can be very unlikable as a character. I kept reading because it was intriguing to see how Elantris ties into the Cosmere and the premise of zombie lepers was so creative.

Brandon Sanderson grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska. He lives in Utah with his wife and children and teaches creative writing at Brigham Young University.
